Board Meeting Minutes

August 8, 2007

 

 

The AMFA Board of Directors meeting was held at 10:25 a.m. at the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth on Wednesday, August 8, 2007.  Members present: Dan Larson, Dave Sarvela, Tom Vacca, Rusty Hogland, and Gary Werkhoven.  Not able to attend: Gene Betts, David Hogan, Byron Helland.

 

Motion by Werkhoven, 2nd by Hoglund to approve the Consent Agenda, minus the AR Aging Report.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Program Committee:  Twin City Plating may be interested as a presenter.  It was agreed that no tour will be scheduled in conjunction with December meeting.

 

Membership Committee  (Tom Vacca)  Total membership has increased by three members from last year.  The AR Aging Report was reviewed:

Machine Tool Supply – Told Vacca they will renew

Premier Products – Werkhoven will follow up

Swenson Anderson – Larson will follow up

The Laurentian Group – Hoglund will follow up

Duluth Public Schools – Larson will ask Heidi

 

Marketing/PR/Web/Newsletter:  The Chair position is open.

Motion by Werkhoven, 2nd by Hoglund to remove the Board Minutes from Shoptalk and place on website in a separate section (BOD Tab).

 

OLD BUSINESS

Duluth Area Chamber Membership:  Motion by Hoglund, 2nd by Larson to contact the Duluth Chamber to discuss the potential to exchange memberships at no charge.  Hoglund will follow up with the Duluth Chamber.

 

Bylaw Changes: Motion by Vacca, 2nd by Werkhoven to distribute to the membership the proposed changes to the bylaws.  The changes will need to be read at the next two meetings.

 

Sales Tax on Capital Goods:  Sandy and Rusty suggested a meeting to teach members how to fill out the necessary forms.  Larson will try to get MMA to fund a special event: report in September.

 

WA Fischer:  The AMFA Board has decided not to endorse any specific member for their services. 

 

Shipping Program for Scrap Metal Donations:  The LSC trucking program cannot be used for any portion of this program.  Larson, Mike Koppy and Ron Yardley will continue to pursue logistics.

 

NEW BUSINESS

Wind Energy Roundtable:  Larson and Sandy will coordinate with Lisa Heyesen, APEX, to develop a way to distribute AMFA endorsement of the Roundtable meeting scheduled from 8:00 – 10:00 AM on Friday, September 21, 2007.  Power companies are mandated to use 25% wind energy by 2025.  The purpose of the meeting is to explore whether northern Minnesota is a potential location to manufacture the components needed to build wind energy capacity.

 

Next BOD meeting:  Wednesday, September 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Hibbing Community College
