Board Meeting Minutes

March 14, 2007

The AMFA Board of Directors meeting was held at 10:30 a.m. at Hibbing Community College on Wednesday, March 14, 2007.  Members present: Dan Larson, Dave Sarvela, Tom Vacca, Gene Betts, Rusty Hogland, and Mary Brandt.  Not able to attend: Gary Werkhoven, Byron Helland, David Hogan.

General Discussion:  Open house at Northland Machine on May 9.  Dan spoke with Heather Rand (DEED) about inviting Commissioner McElroy to speak at that meeting.   AMFA exhibit booths at May meeting: one for members and one for ET.  Gene proposed setting up the booths in Cohasset.

Vacca suggested that one of the next open meetings feature a program about membership development.  Members and guests would describe their business; and, if they are a member, the benefits of membership.

Minutes from the December 2006 and February 2007 meetings were approved as printed.  Motion: Betts, 2^nd Hoglund.

Financial reports were approved on a motion from Betts, 2^nd Sarvela.  Inquiry regarding the request for samples of a new reporting format that allows quick comparison of “monthly actual” versus “monthly budget.”  Betts mentioned that Sandy has been busy with the member directory.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Marketing/PR/Web/Newsletter:  Betts would like to secure the December program so we can take photos for Shoptalk.  The brochure should be ready by next month. 

Larson suggested sending highlights and reminder of the upcoming meeting to nonmembers who have expressed interest.  Develop an email to be sent to current members outlining this plan and requesting that members provide a list of interested prospects.  The email to prospective members would go out each month. Motion Betts, 2^nd Hoglund.

Program Committee:  Motion to do Tabletop Trade Shows at meetings.  Try to get five members per month to set up a tabletop display. Motion Betts, 2^nd Vacca.

Consent Agenda:  Motion to use the new Consent Agenda format for meetings.  Motion Betts, 2^nd Vacca.

Membership Committee –

New Member:    Approve W.A. Fischer Advertising.  Motion Hoglund, 2^nd Vacca.

Delinquent:        Floe International – Larson will ask Hogan to contact

                        Premier Products – Larson

                        Search Resources - Vacca

Government Affairs Committee – Nothing new to report.

OLD BUSINESS

Nonmember Policy: Attendance at the first two AMFA meetings is free.  Subsequent meetings are $20/meeting for nonmembers, with no limit on how many times a nonmember can attend.

Labovitz Nominees by AMFA include:  Northland Machine, Stanley LaBounty, Northstar Aerospace, Ikonics, and Moline Machinery.

President Term of Office: Motion for Sandy to gather information about changing the bylaws and include proposed change in the April BOD consent agenda.  Motion by Betts, 2^nd Vacca.

Next BOD Meeting:  April 11^th in Duluth (not Cohasset, as indicated on the Agenda).

Motion to adjourn:  Betts, 2^nd Vacca.
