AMFA Board of Directors

MEETING MINUTES

August 11, 2006

 

The AMFA Board of Directors meeting was called to order by President Dave Hogan at 12:15 P.M. on August 11, 2006.  The meeting was held at Grizzly’s in Duluth.

 

Present: Dave Hogan, Gene Betts, Tom Vacca, Dave Sarvela, Byron Helland and Dan Larson

 

The minutes of the May meeting were reviewed and approved after a short discussion.

    • Motion: Betts; 2nd: Hogan.

 

Financial Report  The April financial report was reviewed and approved.

    • Motion: Betts; 2nd: Hogan

 

Committee Reports

Membership Committee – Vacca reporting.

Members at issue:

  • Cirrus Design (Hogan)
  • Floe Int’l (Kashmark)
  • P&H MinePro (Brandt)
  • Screen Graphics (Hogan)
  • Twin City Plating (Helland)          They are in the non-renewing category
  • MN DEED (Sarvela)
  • Plastics Int’l (Vacca)
  • Machine Tool Supply (Vacca)
  • Hegman Machine Tool (Vacca)    Aging Summary and May BOD Agenda to not agree
  • WITC                                        Just turned delinquent

Potential New Members:

  • Weisgram Metal Fabricators - Vacca to follow-up
  • Praxair, Duluth  - Helland to follow-up

 

Marketing/Public Relations Committee –Betts reporting

·         We are ready to implement the marketing plan suggested by the UMD-CED Student to Business Initiative.  Using the list of potential companies they developed, we will weed out those that obviously do not fit.  Shops and service companies will be contacted first.

·         The brochure will be updated and we hope to have it done in a week.  There will not be too many changes right now, but it will further emphasize member benefits.  The general layout will remain the same.

·         Sandy Kashmark has a list of the AMFA member benefits.  Byron Helland requested a copy.

 

Program Committee – Betts reporting

  • The program for the September 13th meeting (Hibbing) is set with Jim Poole from James J. Hill Reference Library (http://www.jjhill.org/ ) speaking about business information resources.
    • Betts to follow-up on the tour of L&M Radiator
  • The program for the October 11th meeting (Duluth) is set with Fred Zimmerman discussing the impact of manufacturing in Minnesota
    • There may be a tour of Cirrus Designs
  • G. Betts discussed a questionnaire that will be sent out to a limited number of members asking for input on future programs

AMFA Educational Trust – no report

 

OLD BUSINESS

  • Discussion was that at this point, a treasurer is not necessary.
    • Motion (Betts: 2nd Hogan):  Give Sandy Kashmark as Executive Director of AMFA, the authorization to write checks on behalf of AMFA.
  • Rabelle.com – (Tony is still invoicing AMFA $19.95/month hosting fee.)  We sent a letter canceling contract, why are we still getting billed? 
    • Hogan to follow-up
  • $1,000 contribution to AMFA-ET – Money could be used by AMFA to build membership through advertising and potentially paying for future speakers.
    • Motion (Betts: 2nd Larson): Do not contribute $1000 to AMFA-ET at this time.

 

NEW BUSINESS

  • MN Chamber of Commerce:  Per Sandy’s involvement with the MN Mfg. Coalition, the MN Chamber of Commerce has offered to exchange memberships with AMFA and TSMA.    Should we accept this offer?
    • Tabled until September BOD meeting
